The Information about the Czech Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis of the Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyne, established in Prague on December 6, 2004
The Czech Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (CSTH) highlights the interdisciplinary character of its principal subject – haemostasis, and its principal aim is to concentrate the experts of all the theoretical and clinical fields of medicine related to the haemostasis, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and the treatment of the complications associated with the disorder of haemostasis. It accumulates the specialists from all fields of medicine related to the disorders of haemostasis, bleeding disorders, thrombophilia manifested as either the arterial or venous thrombosis, thus not only the haematologists, but also the gynaecologists, obstetricians, surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, angiologists, internists, paediatricians, anaestesiologists, traumatologists, cardiologists, radiologists, neurologists, general practicioners etc.
This principe is also supported by the current composition of the Board Members of the Society – it consists of three haematologists, two surgeons, one neurologist, one cardiologist, one angiologist and two internists. According to the annals of the Czech Medical Society, the number of the registered members of the CSTH is currently 130.
One of the further functions of the Society is to organize the scientific and postgradual educational symposia, coordinate the educational and treatment activities and implement the recent knowledge obtained from the literature and research grant activities into the everyday practice. It also aims to establish the international cooperation, especially with the organs of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) and CSTH is the active participant of the World Thrombosis Day. In 2008 and 2012, with the kind agreement of the CHEST, CSTH published the 8th and 9th collection of the recommendations of the American College of Chest Physicians in the Czech language. There is the long-lasting cooperation with the Slovak Society on Haemostasis and Thrombosis andmore recently, CSTH supports also the European Congress on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
CSTH tends to inform the health workers about the new procedures involved in the prevention and treatment of the complications of disorders of haemostasis including the organization of methodical help from the Centres of haemostasis established in all cities which are the seats of the University Hospital in the Czech Republic (now it is represented by seven centres – Prague, Hradec Kralove, Plzen, Ostrava, Olomouc and Brno). In these centres, predominantly the patients with thrombophilia and haemophilics are followed-up.
The national congress of experts with the international workshops with the topic according to the previous selection (for instance the workshops focused on the prevention of the venous thromboembolism and life-threatening bleeding in the cooperation with the Czech Angiological Society, Czech Orthopaedic Society, Czech Oncological Society, Czech Traumatological Society, Czech Society for Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Czech Anaesthesiological Society, Czech Society of Internal Medicine, Czech Haematological Society), is organized once a year. Along with the Section of the Invasive Cardiology of the Czech Cardiological Society, CSTH also organizes so-called „Day of Rokitanski“. All these activities are incorporated in the program of the postgradual course of the Czech Medical Chamber.
Folowing the agreement with the medical insurance groups, the CSTH is the specialist guarantee of the courses for the general practitioners in the problematics of the control of the anticoagulant treatment and the system CoaguChek for the control of the International Normalized Ratio in the Czech Republic, makes the statements about the effectiveness of the use of the new oral anticoagulants in the clinic and the guarantee of the Haemophilic Program in the Czech Republic. With the cooperation with other specialized societes, CSTH publishes many guidelines, including the selection of the genetic tests for the detection of the thrombophilia. Each physician, who is the member of the Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyne can become a member of the CSHT.
