Serbian Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis (SSTH) was founded on December 4th, 2008 at the SSHT Assembly held in Belgrade, and in a way it represents continuation of the Yugoslav Haemostasis and Thrombosis Section tradition, dating back to 1977. The first elected president of this society was the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts member, Prof dr Stanoje Stefanovic, and the first secretary general was Prim dr Radmila Baklaja. Dramatic events which happened during the nineties among other things, changed professional associations, but all those who still believed in the need to continue cooperation in the field of haemostasis and thrombosis as a priority with no other alternative, gathered together on December 12th, 1997 in Belgrade and decided to establish Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis of Yugoslavia. The first elected president of the newly founded Society was Prof dr Aleksandar Lucic. Finally, after many transitions, on December 4th, 2008 Serbian Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis was founded, with dr. Danijela Miković as elected president of the society two vice-presidents, nine members of the Steering Committee, and three members of the Executive Committee.. Today, SSHT follows the tracks left by previous societies, with great respect to the inherited tradition.
SSHT is open association, gathering approximately 200 professionals dealing with haemostasis and other associated medical specialities.
Main objectives of the society are: improvement of the global knowledge in the field of haemostasis for the purpose of more efficient prevention, diagnosis and treatment of haemostasis disorders; promotion of medical disciplines associated with haemostasis and thrombosis; organization of professional meetings in domain of haemostasis; accomplishing professional cooperation with other national and international haemostasis and thrombosis associations.
