Julie Rayes Julie Rayes is an associate professor at the institute of cardiovascular sciences at the University of Birmingham and holds a British heart intermediate fellowship. She trained in the University of Paris VII Denis Diderot in France before undertaking postdoctoral positions in France and at the University of Birmingham. Julie’s research interests focus on understanding the bidirectional interactions between platelets and innate immune cells and their relevance in thrombo-inflammatory diseases. In particular, she investigates the mechanisms by which damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) released from red cells and innate immune cells alter the proinflammatory properties of platelets, independent of their classical thrombotic functions.
